Round pens are by far one of the most widely used training tools in the horse industry today and are quickly becoming one of those "must-have" equine products. Their versatility allows them to be used for a multitude of tasks from lunging and training pens to temporary turn out. Just like when planning your horse fencing, there are many factors to consider when choosing a round pen, but the most important feature to consider is safety.

1. Diameter: Will the pen be used for lunging, turn out, breaking out young horses or other purposes? Most round pens are around 60' in diameter. This allows plenty of room to lunge, turn- out and even ride in the round pen without causing too much stress on tendons and ligaments.
2. Location: Select a location with flatter ground. Flatter ground is easier to school on and easier on your horse. A bumpy, up-and-down terrain can cause your horse to be inconsistent.
3. Portable or Permanent: Do you need a round pen that is easy to assemble and take down, or will it be more of a permanent fixture on your property? As portable structures, round pens can serve many purposes. They can be quickly changed into a temporary stall, paddock or used for hay storage. Square corners on the panels would eliminate the normal u-shaped openings where a horse's leg could get caught if they were to rear and come down on the panel. For a more permanent round pen, Flex-Fence horse fencing is suitable and is safer for more permanent work areas.
4. Footing: The type of footing you choose use is crucial. Sand is the most common type of footing used. If your round pen is mainly used for turn out, then footing is not as much of a concern, and grass could be left in the round pen for the horse to graze.

It is 6' tall, which makes it safer for more excitable horses. It has a full gate panel with a spring-loaded latch. It is available in 50'-60' sizes. The Utility round pen is available in a 60' pen that has the standard pin hook up. The panels are 12' wide and are easy to connect to most other brands of corral panels. Panels can also be purchased separately along with the arch gate also.

Always remember that panels are designed for use in the round pen system and are not intended for use as horse fencing systems or gates. They should never replace your horse fence for permanent turn out.
