Dear Debbie,

I have a 10-month-old painted colt whose mane does not fall all on one side. Half falls naturally to one side of his neck and the other half falls to the other. Is there anything I can do to keep his mane on one side? Diana

Hi Diana,

Yes, you can train your horse's mane to one side. It takes a while, but you can purchase mane trainers from tack stores. They look like a long, stretchy sleeve that gently goes over your horse neck. You can dampen the mane lightly, or use a product to help hold the mane. Be sure to take the sleeve off for short periods of time, and then put it back on. Soon you will start to see the mane lay down. Some horses manes just like to split, and you may always need the extra help of the sleeve from time to time. I hope this helps you. If you have further questions, please let me know.

Debbie
