    Hot Topic – Barn Fans

It’s hot. It’s humid. The air is not moving. Sound like a typical summer day? In an effort to make our equine companions more comfortable we often break out the fans this time of year. But, are the fans you are using actually much more dangerous than you have imagined? Very likely...

Posts: The Backbone of Your Fence System

Our horses' pastures are their homes. Pasture fencing needs to be strong enough to hold your horses. The posts are what hold the entire fencing system together. Without sturdy and strong posts, your fence cannot do its job and hold up long from daily use.

All the Comforts of Home - For Your Barn

Autumn colors, brisk temperatures, and long trail rides with friends and barn buddies. I have to admit---fall is my favorite time of year. Helmets - The Rules Have Changed

I am a big proponent of helmet use every time, every ride for everyone. I believe that wearing a helmet should be the norm and love to see professionals and big-name-riders wearing helmets. I love it when advertisers select photos of riders wearing helmets, and hope to see more of it in the future. Effective January 2013 the FEI (the controlling authority for all international equestrian competitions in Dressage, Jumping, Eventing, Driving, Endurance, Vaulting and Reining) implemented a rule requiring helmet use in areas where they weren’t required before.

Research shows that equine sleep deprivation can lead to all sorts of problems, including excessive drowsiness under saddle, joint pain, and environmental stress. If you find your horse holds a lot of tension or suffers from chronic joint pain, a good night’s sleep could be all he needs, but he won’t get that sleep if he doesn’t feel safe or comfortable lying down. Let’s face it---if your horse’s bed feels like an old lumpy mattress, he probably won’t lie down for long enough to move into a deep sleep. Stall mattresses can change all that.
