A properly installed grounding bed is the key to success with electric fencing systems. In most cases, if an electric fencing system is not functioning properly, the grounding bed is the cause. It is possible that additional ground rods are needed, or it may need to be watered, as the ground rods seek moisture from the ground. In certain demographics with dry climates, ensuring that the ground bed is damp can be the solution to many electric fencing failures.

Installation: Ground rods should be placed at least 25′ from your energizer and near the fence line, but at least fifty feet away from any underground piping, cable, or another grounding system. A ground rod closer than 50′ from a waterline (even if the waterline is plastic) may cause signal interference on your home computer, phone, radio or TV. Ground rods closer than 25′ from the energizer may damage the energizer during electrical storms.
