Flex Fence is not only made to keep horses safer while being contained, but it also works superbly for other livestock animals. With the ability to flex 6″-8″ upon impact, Flex Fence gives you the prestigious board fence look, but with safety in mind!
We have many owners who say their alpacas and llamas are much safer and happily contained in their Flex/woven wire fence combination.  The Flex top rail offers visibility and strength while the woven wire helps to keep predators out. Pictured below is a RAMM customer who hosts Alpaca Yoga on their property inside of a Flex Fence top rail and non-climb mesh combination fence system.
There have been many years of research and development has been put into our Flex Fence systems. The memory in the high-tensile wire allows the fence to flex and come back to its original shape. The polyethylene coating requires no painting to the rail and little-to-no maintenance makes Flex Fence an economical choice for any farm owner. With Flex Fences break strength of 4,200 lbs per rail, a 4 rail fence will offer 16,800 total lbs of break strength! Plus the rail can flex up to 8′ on impact and return to its original shape. Your fence can not only be a strong working fence but aesthetically pleasing too! Revolutionary, streamline hardware offers easier installation.
RAMM has both horses and sheep on the property behind our Flex. For the sheep, pictured below, we use a 4 rail, 425 fence. For added peace of mind from predators, (the woods is directly behind us), we have non-climb mesh wire in combination with it.
Want to see all of our latest Flex Fence pictures and ideas for livestock animals? We have a Pinterest board just for you!
*Note: These were just a few examples of livestock and Flex Fence. Our customers’ animals have included dogs, ostrich, camels, zebras and more! The size of the animal will determine the kind of rail you choose and the number of rails needed for the best containment. Choose any combination and perhaps consider non-climb with your Flex for exotics or smaller livestock.Â
Flex Fence: RAMM’s Flex Fence can be cleaned with a soap and water solution. If your fencing is in a highly humid area, near sap trees, or gets surface mud or mold, you can use a 50/50 water/bleach solution to clean it. A paint mitt or cloth can be used to wash your fence rails. If needed, a gentle power sprayer can be used.
One of the many benefits of Flex Fence is that the polymer is made to resist discoloration- and will not penetrate into the rail.
PVC Horse Fence: You can use common household cleaners to clean your PVC Fence. :
Apply the cleaner to the rail and rinse thoroughly as you would any other product that’s been exposed to outdoor elements. A pressure washer will make quick work of applying the solution. To clean the dirt out of scratches, use a damp sponge with a dab of Soft Scrub. Gently rub in the direction of the scratch, being careful not to rub too hard; rubbing too hard could harm the finish of the product.
*Note: We recommend that you DO NOT use acetone or thinner for cleaning purposes, as you may damage the product.
Flex Fence started from years of research and development to become a safer horse fence solution. We have selected the polymer combination to cover climate conditions throughout the world. Our polyolefine contains the maximum amount of color and UV inhibitors that the polymer can absorb. Additionally, the highest level of mildew resistant properties are included.Â
Flex Fence is made to withstand extreme temperatures and still flex 6-8″ on impact. PVC or board could not compete against Flex’s superior quality in inclement weather. Even in extreme weather temperatures and conditions – hurricanes, flooding, frigid temperatures, snowdrifts and excessive winds, Flex has stood the test. Our customers attest to its ability to stand while other fence systems do not. Â
If you want to hear about a first-hand experience, we had a great podcast episode on Late Night Riders with Michelle Rumanes, from The Plaid Horse on preparing your horses, your property, and your mental toughness when it comes to natural disasters. Michelle’s farm survived a California wildfire and a terrible flood that followed soon thereafter:
Extreme weather can happen when we least expect it. The fate of your beloved equine(s) may be in your hands. Using Flex Fence can substantially reduce fencing issues during the most trying times with storms in any season. The strength of the Flex system surpasses any traditional fence. Most often even if a post breaks, the rail holds the post while with others, the system falls to the ground.
When weather conditions reach a higher level it’s best to follow local warnings for evacuation or instructions for your area. ‘It’s always best to trust your instinct and do what you think is best at the moment. This doesn’t mean that you still shouldn’t be prepared. By simply talking about and thinking through your strategy in the event of a natural disaster your horses and barn will have a better chance of coming through intact. As they say, chance favors the prepared mind!‘ – Andrea Wise, Founder of Horse Glam. Click here to read the full blog post “Severe Weather Checklist for your Horse Farm” That includes:

With a proper installation of CCA-treated wood posts, re-tensioning your Flex Fence is virtually eliminated. We always recommend discussing high-traffic areas with a RAMM account manager in addition to following the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Any high-tensile product like Flex Fence is extremely strong, however, if you crimp or fold the fence over onto itself and apply tension, then you create a weak spot.
With the right equipment and tools, there have been many people who choose to install Flex Fence by themselves. Once your fence posts are auger drilled/driven into the ground, the aforementioned (corners, ends/gates, and non-straight) posts must be concreted. Then follow the Flex Fence installation instructions for your rail placement.
*Note: If you are using an installer, our RAMM account managers are more than happy to answer any question they might have as well.
Any high-tensile fence system needs to be properly braced and concreted at your corner posts, end/gate posts, as well as any post that’s not in a straight line. If bracing is avoided, sagging will occur. As always, we recommend using the installation instructions and electric fencing with any high-traffic areas.

RAMM’s Flex Fence warranty includes any cracking, peeling, chipping, discoloration, manufacturer’s defect, or UV weathering.
Flex Fence is available in five different options:
Flex Fence is a specifically designed horse fence material that was made to be a safer alternative to traditional horse fencing systems. It consists of high-tensile wire molecularly bonded to polyethylene plastic. Instead of splintering or breaking on impact, Flex Fence will flex up to 6″-8″ and return to its original shape.
Flex Fence is extremely strong, with the widest size (525 Plus Flex Fence) having 4,200 pounds of break strength per rail, so your horses are far more likely to stay safe and remain in their pasture out of harm’s way. Flex Fence is available in black, brown, and white to match most farm color schemes.
The Flex Fence warranty DOES NOT cover abuse or misuse; we recommend using the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Any high-tensile product [Flex Fence] will be extremely strong, however, if you crimp or fold the fence over onto itself and apply tension, then you create a weak spot.
*Note: We recommend the use of electric horse fencing in high-traffic areas.
No; Flex Fence is made with polyethylene, which is the product of choice for chemical containers because it is impervious to chemicals. Therefore, no oil chemicals will affect the fence’s integrity.
